As the days grow short and the nights grow long
sometimes we find ourselves thinking
Who is she that cry’s without knowing the pain of loss
or even he that gives to the silent beggar
when he knows not want nor need.
Is this who we see ourselves to be
when we look in the mirror
do we see the words of our sins
scrawled upon our faces
Hate, jealousy, anger, lust, pride.
The words that define the very core of humanity.
Our actions are what defines us
The words scrawled upon our faces
then are not written in blood
but instead in ink.
Some people only change the markings a few times in their lives
while others still,
are constantly marking and erasing.
Think to yourself then
who is the better person
one who keeps the markings for an extensive period
or who’s “character” changes nearly a hundred times
in the span of a single day.
If you find yourself asking these questions
you then are not one for the better because,
even as these words revolve in your head
so they are being written on your face.
Our actions define us
and are thoughts it seems are not only thoughts
but the very fiber of our being.
So many thoughts
such a confusing riddle that runs through this wicked mind of mine.
